I can’t meditate!
I think we all have at some point. I know I did, especially when I first started yoga. All I could think about were my eyeballs flicking around underneath my eyelids and the more I thought about it the more they did it. It was truly annoying.
And that’s why I think so many of us think we can’t. Because in the beginning it’s so uncomfortable. The truth is we all can. And if someone’s tells you it’s easy, it’s really not and probably one of the hardest parts of being a yogi. To sit there with yourself, trying to block out distractions. But somewhere along the way I stopped resisting my thoughts, I would gently acknowledge them and without being hard on myself would let them leave in the way they came. Freely and without judgment. It’s not about having an empty head, it’s about catching your mind when it started to wander and the more you do it the easier it gets. That I can promise.
I can always feel if I haven’t meditated and know I need to. And you don’t have to sit crossed legged with your eyes open, lie down with your eyes shut to start if that’s more comfortable. The point it to “just be” quietly for a time. For yourself!
